Who's the most sarcastic person you'll ever meet?

I've seen multiple people on various online social networks who put down on their profile that their "The most sarcastic person you'll ever meet". Caesar's Ghost! You mean, every time we hold a conversation with that person that every thing they say will mean exactly the opposite?!?! I really want to know if they stand pat to their claim that they are truly the most sarcastic person anyone will ever meet. Let's add that to the long list of MySpace stereotypes:

-taking pictures that are spontaneous and candid, when really, they're holding the camera themselves!
-"Don't label me, I'm not a soup can" plastered all over their about me
-"Anyone who's not a fake" under the section "Who I'd Like To Meet"
-14 year old girls who try to look like they're 20 so they can have every single person that looks at their slutty picture with their pants down
-the guy who likes to take the shirtless picture to show off the photoshopped muscled body
-having Tila Tequila and Forbidden on their top 8
-the girl who says she ugly and fat then tells people not to comment when really, she has some kind of eating disorder and is in a thong bent over a bath room sink with a camera in their hand
-the emo "individuals" that say they are unique and different from everyone else, but in truth, they all look alike and if you were to play "Where's Emo", you won't be able to
-under music, saying that they "all kinds of music"
-the opaque-colored picture of a topless girl on top of a topless guy on a beach on their page

And now you can add:
-"I'm the most sarcastic person you'll ever meet"

TA fucking DA, there you have it, the list of MySpace cliches that plague the internet. People try to set themselves apart when they all do the same! I call it the INCBIRAC complex. It stands for the I'm Not Conforming But I Really Am Conforming.

Everyone saying they are unique, but no they're not. They saw someone else on MySpace and they copy.

My final statement: These people that claim that they are the most sarcastic person anyone will ever meet are frauds. Shams.

Is there really a most sarcastic person in existence? Yes there is: ME BITCH! I am the most sarcastic person you will ever meet!

(Did you see what I did there? I said I'm the most sarcastic person in existence, but I said that with sarcasm.)

My whole point here is that. Originality and uniqueness are very hard to come by nowadays. Everyone starts to classify themselves as original, but when they do, they're totally just like everyone else. Originality has no meaning or value anymore. It's all one massive trend.

So I guess everyone we talk to, we can all be under the assumption that they are just being sarcastic? How can that even be made into a trend now? Does anyone know what the word sarcasm means? Someone please explain to me how all of a sudden people are the most sarcastic anyone will meet? Is everyone becoming sarcastic by intention because someone else is doing it?

"Oh look, she says she likes that red dress but she really doesn't. I'm going to go be sarcastic now!"

"Oh hey, I like your shoes. (girl walks away) Oh my god! Did you see that, I was totally sarcastic to that bitch with the ugly shoes."

Her friend goes "Oh my god, you were totally sarcastic! You're the epitome of original."

Only Child? That's Only Half True.

I grew up being the only child, but as I got older, I've had a suspicion that my dad had banged some other woman back in the Philippines decades ago. Today, that suspicion became truth. Relatives dropped by for a visit and had lunch. My dad introduced me to 18 year old L.A. Yes his name is L.A. My dads name is Leo Archie. Figure out how L.A. got his name. Go ahead, it's not that hard.

As my dad introduced me to him, he didn't say he was my half-brother, but my uncle did. They were only here for around an hour. I have never felt an hour that was filled with awkwardness, but then again, I feel that way in every family gathering.

I really find it odd on how my parents can't tell me directly that I have a half-brother floating around, specifically Las Vegas (where L.A. and his family are currently residing in). There's so much stuff that I know that my parents think I'm completely oblivious of. I'm an adult, I think I could handle that I have a half-brother. To be honest, I don't really care. He's just another relative that I won't see for years.

One thing I'd like to point out though. My cousin also came along for the visit and he brought his girlfriend along. She was quite the looker. Nice butt.

What One Man Truly Represents To A Country

The hope and pride that represents the Philippines stands at 5'7" and 135 lbs. No, it is not their President. It is the man they call Manny 'Pac-Man' Pacquiao.

This was Pacquiao's first match as a lightweight boxer. He was previously boxing as a featherweight boxer. In order to be in the lightweight class, Pacquiao had to gain pounds of muscle until he reached the 135 lb. limit. He was fighting for the WBC lightweight championship against title holder David Diaz. Diaz's record before the bout was 32-1-1, as Pacquiao's record was 46-3-2.

I've seen highlights of many boxing matches, but watching Pacquiao was a highlight in itself. The man can flat out box. He is just ridiculously quick, great recovery speed, VERY evasive. Just an unbelievable athlete. Once he throws in a haymaker that connects, MANY, MANY more follow. The man is a southpaw boxer (left-handed), but he was just dominating with his right against Diaz. Diaz at times threw in some pretty good power punches, but the Pac-Man was just way too quick.

The match ended in a 9 round knockout when he landed a left-hook to the side of the face of Diaz who fell face first into the mat. The Pride of the Philippines (current record is now 47-3-2) stood tall to the elated Filipino crowd in attendance, raising the Filipino flag, and became the new WBC lightweight champion.

At first glance, the man with a charming looks like just another hard-working and innocent Filipino. But behind his 'pogi' (handsome in Tagalog) face, contains a fierce boxing champion.

Today, I was over at a neighbor's house to experience and watch this phenomena that is the sport of boxing. It was not until the actual match that I realize how Pacquiao meant to the country of the Philippines. Watching the family and friends that surrounded me, it seemed as if they were witnessing a suspense film. They were at the edge of their seat the whole time; leaping for joy and yells of "hit him in the head" (spoken in Tagalog of course, I just don't know it) for every blow Pacquiao delivered. And for every blow delivered to the Pac-Man, was a blow to the cheerful attitude to everyone in the room which triggered the emotional outbursts of "oh no!" and "oh shit!"

It was not only a victory for the prized champion, but a victory to those who were watching as everyone felt that they were in that ring themselves. To Filipinos everywhere, Pacquiao is more than just a boxer from the Philippines. He is the hope, pride and joy of the whole country. Albeit, the country has dealt with a corrupt government and relentless destruction caused by bagyos (typhoons in the Philippines) over the years, but the sun has never shined so bright than it has today. Pacquiao represents what Filipino citizens are. High-spirited champions that keep on fighting, never letting anything get in their way.

Every hardship that the country has encountered can easily be forgotten for every hard-fought win Pacquiao brings home. But even if he does lose a match once in a rare while, Filipinos will always give their heart and soul to support the lone man who not only fights for himself, but fights for each of the 97+ million citizens in the Philippines and the 4 million Filipinos in America. For every jab, hook and punch thrown by Pacquiao, the morale of the country gets higher and higher. Given that the state of the country is in poverty, Paquiao just proves that pride has no cost, it's priceless.

How Cool! That Dude Just Got Hit By A Car!

Late last week, there was a 78 year old man in Connecticut who got hit by a car. He was walking across a busy street when he became a victim of a hit-and-run accident.

There is video that has been released by police and audio of 911 calls of the accident. In the video, you can clearly see the man jaywalking on the busy street. Then seconds later, you see a car crossing the double yellow line and hitting the man, hurling him into the air and laying helplessly on the street. The car did not stop, as it just drove continuously and turned on a nearby street.

It is also shown in the video that it looks like some kind of chase between two cars. After the first car hits the man, you can see that there is another car that is directly following the first. It crosses the double yellow line, just like the first car and turns where the first car turns. So there clearly is another story to this between the car chase.

Now, that is just two of the only immoral acts in this video (1. hit-and-run, 2. crossing over the double yellow line and driving on the opposite side of the road and endangering oncoming traffic, including the chase). The third is the most shocking and despicable.

After the man had been hit by the car, he is shown laying there on the street as bystanders watch on the side walk. According to reports, police have been called and were on their way. What's shocking about this is that there were clearly witnesses, but no one goes up to help the man or carry him to the side walk to avoid him being hit for a second time.

There is a concept to this called the bystander effect. People are less likely to help someone in distress when they are in the presence of other bystanders than when they are alone. There are a couple of reasons why people have this effect. One could be that they do not want to look stupid in trying to help a person. Second could be that they believe someone else has already called for help or will help. Third could be that no one wants to be responsible if something fatal happens to the person they tried to help.

Good Samaritan laws are placed in the United States which protect people from being held accountable should something happen to the person they try to aid. It also protects them from being sued or prosecuted against in case death or unintentional injury results from trying to aid the victim.

It comes to my attention that people are too caught up in their selfishness or self-consciousness to help someone in need of it. Noted that people do not want to be responsible for anything that happens to the victim should they help. But couldn't anyone at least try to get him out of the road?

In the video, you can see all the people on the surrounding sidewalks just gazing at the paralyzed man. There are even people who walk up to him to see if hes alright, but then go on about their business. Seriously, are people just too caught up in their own selfishness that they can't even help others in danger? Does no one even care about helping others? Or at the very least, help them so they are out of the way of danger?

Surely, there will be someone to call 911. Anyone can do that in a cell phone-ridden age. But the act of physically helping someone? Not in this day and age. Anything out of the ordinary is just a form of entertainment to the people that just watch from the sidelines. They whip out their camera phone, send it to everyone they know, drawing out a reaction of "oh my god" or "how cool". It's all just another movie to these insensitive and immoral assholes we call human beings.

Calling 911 is something anyone with a phone can do. But just standing there, not making an effort to help someone is just cold. And just downright selfish. If someone is too concerned with looking stupid to help someone, they do not deserve to have anything good happen to them.

Watching someone get hit by a car to these bystanders means nothing to them. There is no sympathy or compassion being felt at all. It's just the excitement of witnessing something that is seen in movies. Do people know nothing about morality anymore? I know that there are no moral classes being taught in school. Morality is acquired by the individual. They know what they consider what is right and what is wrong.

Just take note of what the bystander effect shows what people really are. Conformists. Sheep. "Oh hey, they're not doing anything, they're just standing there. I will to. Because I am a fucking sheep and a selfish son of a bitch."

So next time some man flies ten feet in the air, pull up a chair, grab some popcorn, and enjoy the 45 seconds of entertainment in front of your eyes. Don't bother going out of your way to help that man. If no one does, why should you right?

Concert Review-65daysofstatic at Chain Reaction 6-02-08

Monday night....what can I say, it was AMAZING. I can't say that all of it was though....

The night took place at the very generic post-hardcore/hardcore all ages venue in Anaheim, CA called Chain Reaction. I haven't been to that place in like 2 years...when I listened to not so good music. Anyway, I thought it was a strange venue for 65daysofstatic to play....since there are NEVER any post-rock or instrumental bands that play there.

The first two bands were the epitome of the type of bands play at Chain Reaction, pure shit. The first band, Atikan, were just your bland post-hardcore band that sound JUST LIKE EVERYONE ELSE! It's like they broke off the Vans Warped Tour tree and landed in a pile of dung. There's already like 50 bands that sound like you, shitty song structures, bad singing, a weak breakdown here and there. The sing said that Chain Reaction was a pretty far place to drive to and felt like they have been driving for 50 hours. Well next time, just drive into a large body of water and drown.

The next band was this trying-to-be-experimental band Set to Sea. There lyrics were, as my friend Ray described it, three word chants. The vocalist was very whiney. VERY whiney. It was just disgusting. I will sum them up in multiple three word phrases, like their songs. Just terrible music. Sucked really bad. Tried too hard. Horrible horrible lyrics. No one cares.

And another thing that pissed me off about both bands. THEY DID NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGE 65DAYSOFSTATIC. THE VERY BAND THEY DID NOT DESERVE TO OPEN FOR. How ignorant can a band be to not even give a shout out to the band that they are opening for? Do they have some kind of rock star attitude where it is all about them? The only time I will ever care about this band is if their van flips, for I will celebrate in happiness.

On to the headliner. 65daysofstatic is such a unique band blending perfectly together the genres of electronica and post-rock. They brought so much energy and very sincere with the small crowd. They played around 8-9 songs, mainly from their latest album "The Destruction of Small Ideas". The guitarists were great and the drummer was so good. He played along with the drum samples and played with it in time! Which is very hard to do. Very impressed by this band live. They even played a couple of dance-beat interludes between each song which got the crowd to move. One downside though is that there actually was a mosh pit during one of their songs. Only in a city filled with bros and scene kids would do such a thing. Some songs they played live were "Primer", "Radio Protector", "A Failsafe", and "Retreat! Retreat!". The last song they played, "These Things You Can't Unlearn" had a very notable highlight. As the song was ending, the drummer Rob just flipped his whole drumset and throwing all his cymbals to the floor. What passion! It was amazing! They were just flawless live and Chain Reaction should have been honored to host such a band.

I took video of six songs which I post later. I only have two pictures, their setlist they gave me and signed and a picture of their flipped drumset.

Next time this band rolls through town, I suggest you see them! This show was their headlining show and an off-date of their tour. They are currently opening for The Cure.

Thoughts on music downloading from the internet.

Today I received an email from the founder of a public relations firm, which will go unnamed. This person basically wrote me saying that I need to take down the Russian Circles and Daturah link.

Here is what the email said:

"Please remove these downloads from your website
http://anonymouswhistleblower.blogspot.com/.

You are stealing these albums and the record labels have been bcc’d in this email to be made aware of your actions. Ultimately it will be up to them to decide what further action to take.

  • Please note editorial support is greatly appreciated, but stealing and distributing this material is both illegal and will ultimately lead to the demise of the record labels you’re likely only trying to support.

Thank you for your time."

Now, I just want to say a couple of things. In order for it to be made illegal, I'm supposed to have a server which HOSTS these files. These are on sites such as rapidshare, megaupload, mediafire, and such.

When it comes to me posting these files, I have made it clear that PEOPLE SHOULD GO OUT AND BUY ALBUMS FROM BANDS THEY SUPPORT. Why should anyone pay money for a cd they know absolutely nothing about? Everything posted on the internet is for promotional use. It is also a great way for bands to know who their real fans truly are. I am absolutely positive that bands know that their music will get out on the internet. Here is one thing to point out, I DO NOT LEAK THESE ALBUMS. Albums that are leaked stem from people that have worked with the band on some way or form. Why don't you condone those people? Instead people like me who want to spread the name of bands to those who are unaware of them are the ones to blame. To this, I respond with a big fuck you.

You need to realize, in order for a band to make money, they need to get their name across. The internet is the biggest medium between band and audience. Without the internet, 3/4 of the bands that we hear of today wouldn't be a success. There could be people located in Dublin, Ireland that have become a big fan of say, a band from Los Angeles. But they cannot get access to their music because of the location. The use of the internet is the best way to get a bands presence known.

As I had mentioned before, bands can truly see the response to the music they are making. If the bands want to sell their music, make sure it is WORTH selling. Being able to download music gives the buyer an option to buy or not buy music they have listened to. I'm sure every consumer wants to spend their money on something they like. If a band can't sell their music, that DOES NOT stem from people who download from the internet. It should be considered motivation for them to make better music. If someone likes what they hear, they'll go out and support that band by going to their shows, buy merch, and so on. Bands do not make a lot of money from cd sales. The majority of their income come from the shows they play and the merchandise they sell. So, here is what I am saying: band makes good music, then people will support them.

There is also the situation where someone can't afford to purchase music or a cd has sold out. By downloading, you get access to the music you want to hear.

I am willing to put money that without the internet, hundreds of bands would not be in existence. No one would be listening to their music.

So for those who call bloggers thieves, YOU are the one that is truly the thief. You are taking away the promotion from bands that they are receiving. By doing that, you cut off the medium between band and audience. And in turn, you are only the exposing the TRUE intentions of record labels - to only want money and not give a damn about the music bands are putting out.

Show Review: Red Sparowes/Russian Circles/The Holloys @ the Echoplex 3-27-08

Time for a review. Something that I've been putting off for a while. Also something that my dear friend Diane has been pestering me about longer than the name of a Red Sparowes song title. Which brings me to the actual show itself.

The first band, goes by the name of The Holloys. This is a band who I was very unaware of. Never heard a song from them or anything. As an introduction, the lead vocalist/bassist was nice enough to explain the meaning of the name Holloys. I'll be honest to say, I did not pay attention to what he was saying, mainly because he went on. All I know was that it had to do something with the Earth. On to the actual music itself. Holloys is actually a pretty damn good band. They're the only band that played that night with a vocalist. Holloys are an experimental band that incorporates jazz into the music the way the Mars Volta does (coincidentally, one of their drummers, yes ONE of two drummers is Jon Theodore, former drummer of the Mars Volta. He played on their albums Francis the Mute and Deloused in Comatorium.) Overall, The Holloys are a pretty good experimental/jazz band. Having two drummers just thicken their rhythm and the guitarist can just flat out play in such an interesting jazz style.

Second comes my favorite instrumental post-metal band in all of this world. I had the privilege to see Russian Circles bring their mighty sound to southern California with fill-in bassist Brian Cook (current These Arms Are Snakes, ex-Botch bassist). He is filling in on the tour and recorded the bass parts on Russian Circles' upcoming album, "Station". Russian Circles opened with their new song, Harper Lewis. What stands out about that song is the VERY strong bass line in the beginning and throughout the whole song. They played another new song, which was quite short. I didn't know the name of it, nor do I think anyone else did as well besides the band of course. Then third, they played the epic song, Carpe. That song is just amazing live. Carpe is just one of those rare songs that has different sounding parts to it, but they just blend them so perfectly. They then played 2 new other songs, which titles are currently unknown. Then their closer was my personal favorite, Death Rides A Horse. That song is just so dynamic with the looping of the guitarist's (Mike) finger tapping in the beginning. It then goes into a crescendo, which then leads to a climax......or so you think. You think its the end due to the continuous hitting of the snare, then BAM they just explode with intense guitar and bass riffs and hard pounding of the drums. What a way to end their set.

The headliner was next. There's really only one word to describe Red Sparowes: loud. They have three guitarists that flood the stage. Each guitarist uses intense reverb to their guitars so its just this crazy wall of sound that crush your eardrums. I'm going to be honest with you again, I didn't really know of their song titles. The only one I knew was Alone and Unaware (the title goes on, but I can't think of it from the top of my head). That song was amazing. Simply stated, Red Sparowes is just intense and loud live. Three guitarists+reverb+a pedal steel guitar=deaf ears, blown minds, lively crowd, and wet pants.

Good times.

One quick note to point out, their were quite a few notable musicians in attendance:

Aaron Turner (Isis)
Danny Carey (Tool)
Cedric Bixler (The Mars Volta).

Top of the morning to you!

Ah yes.....Thursday morning. Anyway last night was the lunar eclipse, which was pretty interesting. Just standing outside my work with my manager, who was overly obsessed with the sun casting its shadow on the moon, and just gazing at it....for a mere 5 seconds. So this week, I've had time to listen to quite a few albums from bands that I've already heard of, but haven't had time to listen to. Throughout this week, I'll be putting up links to them. They're mainly post-rock, but they're amazing. So check back later or just within the next few days (who am I kidding, no ones going to read this, but you never know a writer for the Times could always end up reading this, ha!)

So it begins......

Well, let me formally introduce myself. My name is Ace (yes, it is my real name). I am a freshman at Cal Poly Pomona as a Criminology major (and maybe a minor in Journalism). I'm into music...a lot. I've recently decided to explore more into the art world by getting more in tune with films and such.

I'm doing this blog mainly just to express my opinions/thoughts/ideas, do reviews of music/movies/arts, and to most importantly, practice my way of writing. I do hope that one day I can be a writer. Writing is a great way to express ones thought into words. Why would I rather express them as words than through drawing? Well both drawing and writing are art. I define art as a way to express ideas or thoughts through a creative outlet. I just choose writing simply for the fact that I can't draw. I'm more inclined to write because theres so many ways you can put words together to form something creative.

What I will post in this blog would mainly consist of reviews of music I have heard and films that I have seen. And every so often, places that I have been to or just things I have seen. Just a way to get my thoughts out of my head and into a piece of writing.

For the music part, I will be uploading links to music of artists. I want to give recognition and praise to the artists that I personally enjoy. I will put up links to their music as a way to spread their name and music. No, I do not host music illegally. I do not have any servers or any networks which contain piracy. But I will say this right now: I am all for the free downloading or sharing of music. I support that because it is THE BEST way for bands to get their music across the world. There are ways in which people simply cannot get a hold of an artist's music physically, so by way of the internet, people can gain access to that artist's music and support them. A second reason is that, why should you spend money on an artist if you don't like that artist? There is always the situation where one wants to simply check out a band and see if they like them or not. Without the sharing of music, people will not be able to check out their music, they would have to go out and buy the CD, they might end up not liking it and as a result, just spent their money on something they do not like. The use of music sharing also determines what their music actually means and the real value of it. If people actually like an artist's music, then they will go out and buy it, if they don't then they don't. The use of the internet illuminates an artist's value of work because if their stuff is good, then it is worth buying. You get what I'm saying so far? There are even some bands out there who wouldn't even be known if it weren't for the internet to spread their music. Now DO NOT get me wrong here. Buy CD's if you like the artist, support the artist you love anyway you can. My point here is, the music sharing over the internet is not bad at all. This is music, as for film or TV that gets out on the internet, I'm not really for the quality of the movies that get out on the internet. Most of the stuff is filmed INSIDE the theater with some low quality camera. When you're watching bootleg films, you end up watching shadows getting up to leave their seat to go to the bathroom rather than the movie. And personally, where else would you be able to watch a movie on a HUGE screen and SURROUND SOUND? Plus, movies/TV that come out on DVD include commentary, which I do recommend people to watch because it gives you more of an understanding of what you are watching. Commentary is a feature that I can assure you, you won't find on the internet.

That's pretty much it for tonight. If you read what I just wrote, I thank you for taking the time as I hope that you visit this blog frequently to look inside of the mind of just another man.
